An Introduction To Bikram Yoga

Most people have a passing knowledge with what Yoga is, or think they know about what it sets out to achieve. But until you have tried Yoga it is impossible to know whether you have the type of personality that can truly excel under it’s influence. Yoga, quite simply can be a life changing experience and the discipline and mental strength that result from it can completely change your perspective and world view.

One method of Yoga which is currently very popular is know as Bikram Yoga. Bikram Yoga, often referred to as ‘hot yoga’ follows the Bikram Yoga Method. As with all Yoga it has multiple goals - to build your inner strength as well as your outer physical strength. A vital component of Bikram Yoga is the flexibility and balance required to perform the exercises and it is believed that this comes from mental strength as much as physical practice. The roots of Bikram are in Hatha Yoga, which is a healing form of Yoga that strengthens both body and mind.

The founder of Bikram Yoga was Bikram Choudhury, a yoga practitioner and innovator. After a weightlifting accident Bikram Choudhury was determined to recover and set about investigating the healing ability of practicing certain types of exercise. The result was Bikram Yoga, which so many people found to be an effective method of healing that it’s tenants were recorded and passed on as a new form of Yoga. Those who practise Bikram Yoga purely for it’s healing benefits are plentiful, but there is also a strong holistic component, which is a key reason behind using Bikram Yoga for many of those who are regular users.

They key to success with Bikram Yoga is to develop the mental strength required to discipline yourself in it’s use. If you can master this side of the Yoga then the physical benefits will be forthcoming. They have been proven by scientists including a group from the Tokyo University Hospital. The medical benefits are beyond question and have been shown to improve chronic ailments as well as greatly assist in the treatment and recovery of tissue injuries.

At the 1972 International Medical Conference the findings were presented and it was concluded that Bikram Yoga had the ability to assist in the recovery of internal tissue. The explanation given was that the positions practised by Bikram Yoga replenish cells and assist in the lymphatic system flushing toxins from the body. In addition to the toxin drain the cells are assisted by higher oxygen flows during and after exercise.

Bikram showed that to get the best benefits from the exercise a healthy and well balanced body was important. Where the body is weak Bikram Yoga will have less affect in the healing process, which relies on correct balance and circulation.

Bikram demonstrated 26 exercises and recommended a regime, which was to be practised every single day in order to best treat the body. Each posture exercise was developed based on a background of both Eastern and Western Yoga disciplines. They all focus on the movement and pressure on muscles, nerves, ligaments glands and organs. The exercises are meant to be performed together and in sequence, because they are all inter-related to each other.

Bikram Yoga is low impact and can be performed by people of all different ages. The important component is the discipline required to perform the posture exercises every day for maximum benefit.

Time Management, Avoiding Negative

Life is a bummer and then we pay the ultimate price. Times are always changing making it difficult for us to keep up with the advancements in our lives. If we are thinking positive most times good, fortunes come our way, but if we are pessimistic, it is likely life is going to get you down! When you get up in the morning do you often say, “help me make it through another day?” On the other hand, do you brew up some coffee, fire up the stove and put on a healthy breakfast, reading the newspaper as it cooks on the stove? If you are doing the second question in order, then you are on your way to success and managing your time well. When you are taking time out for yourself including you in your time management scheme, you are adding time to your schedule. This might sound crazy, but when you take time out for your self-including a healthy diet and exercise, you are bringing up spirits that work hard to be more productive in life. We are already on the edge of time, so there is no sense in making things harder than they are. One of the things that most people lack in life that most of us say we have is respect. Respect comes in several forms. We must have respect for our self before we can respect others. Respect is an interpersonal ability that makes obvious a positive reception of the individuality of other people and a broadmindedness to recognize the differences in others, and the readiness to work together with others as equals. Therefore if you are lacking respect you know time management is a waste of time, since most people you meet at work, school, or interact with at home is recognizing your inability to show respect for others. Lack of respect promotes GREED, which cultivates plans that strive on time against time, as well as negative thinking. It would take me all day to breakdown negative patterns in thinking process, but for the most part, we need to evaluate the essentials, since time management is the ability to bring forth success if time management is worked right.

If you are seeking a positive attitude you might want to find ’self-disclosure’ which is the readiness to contribute your individual experiences with other individuals around you. This includes work, home and school or anyone you are. Personal experiences are how we learn to achieve. If we are open minded it brings forth positive. Immediacy is the ability to openly discuss with others what you have learned, and what you expect to gain. This is called effectual communication. When you have effectual communication, it sparks motivation, which in turn contributes success to your time management schemes. If the people around you are affecting your way of thinking, you might want to confront them instead of letting it go. We have no choices when it comes to work, family, and school. We have to be around other people and influences will affect us if we let them. Negative thinking is not a birth defect; it is the direct affect of teachings and influences. Do not let anyone misled you! One method that I found effective for avoiding negative thinking is not letting people control me, rather taking control of my own individuality. I stand firm in my beliefs simply because I did research for more than 20 years, investigated each and every word people said to me, and role played the solutions, and when I found positive was the day I found the TRUTH. The truth will indeed set you free. This is essential and I stress this logic since life is always changing and we have to accept those changes by finding the truth. Money is the root of all evil. There is no one in life that is not striving to make more money. Therefore, the key to thinking positive and planning a time management scheme is search within your self, research your information, and find a solution that best fits your plan for reaching your goals. No one has all the answers, but answer is available if you want to learn positive time management schemes.

Dealing with Stress at the Computer V

One prominent item on the A-list of computer-related stressors is finding yourself in a sticky situation with other Net users. Heated arguments seem to start much easier online than offline, no doubt because of the relative anonymity of the Internet. Unless you are lucky enough to have a job that involves only a two-way conversation between you and your computer, you will be dealing with other people on a regular basis and must therefore learn as best you can to extricate yourself from many of the interpersonal conflicts that tend to arise online.

If you believe yourself to be one of the reasons that anger-management classes exist, it is vital to your success that you work on gaining control of your temper. Being able to defuse a tense situation with other people will eliminate plenty of needless stress and wasted time. Anger clouds judgment and leads you to say and do things that you may later regret, not only as a result of shame and guilt but also as a result of lost productivity and profits.

There have been many authors over the last century who have realized the key role that highly refined interpersonal skills play in both business and personal success.

The author who stands out from the crowd in this scene would have to be Dale Carnegie. Carnegie wrote several classic books on communication and stress-management that have all stood the test of time. His most popular book, How to Win Friends and Influence People, has always been the self-help book of self-help books. In it, Carnegie revealed plenty of intuitive, yet often overlooked, ways to build a solid foundation in interpersonal relations and influence. Other classic books that Carnegie wrote include Public Speaking and Influencing Men in Business and the king of stress-management books, How to Stop Worrying and Start Living. All three books are highly recommended reading for the individual who often finds himself or herself caught up in the tangles of interpersonal conflict. The advice contained in these three books is still relevant for the all-day computer worker.

Another author who has made valuable contributions to this area is Stephen Covey. Covey is best known for his seminal work The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, but he has written numerous sequels that expound a similar theme. For Covey, developing a strong character ethic and a principled mindset is the basis from which excellent communication skills and quality relationships flow naturally. His advice stands in stark contrast to many of the quick-fix solutions offered by other authors on the market today.

A popular author who practices what he preaches is Anthony (Tony) Robbins. Robbins is famous for his highly dynamic seminars and life-changing ideas about how best to reach the pinnacle of personal success. He taps into a void that has been left by many other authors who have written about the secrets of personal excellence, and he offers plenty of practical strategies for gaining an edge in an increasingly competitive and stress-filled world. Robbins has a whole slew of books and audio resources available, and the hardest thing about enjoying his work may be deciding where to begin. If you are unfamiliar with what Tony can do for your life and your interpersonal relationships, pick up a copy of his book Unlimited Power, and follow that up with his book Awakening the Giant Within. You will find refreshing and valuable insights into the principles of effective living and stress-management.

How to Use Self Hypnosis To Reduce Stress?

Stress is a nasty thing in our lives. It places us at risk of many health related problems. Also stress affects us socially in that it makes us cranky, short tempered and in an overall bad mood. Good news is that there are ways that you can reduce or eliminate the stress in your life. One such thing is self hypnosis. Self hypnosis is great in that it really is not difficult for people with physical limitation to do. So unlike yoga and other stress management options, you can do self hypnosis no matter what your physical statues is.

One of the things that you will need to be able to use self hypnosis successfully is some uninterrupted time in a quit area so that you can fully concentrate on achieving your goal. Make sure everyone around you knows that you are to left alone during this time. I also recommend shutting off all phones, televisions ect. Also if needed post a note on your door alerting visitors that they are not to knock and bother you. This will allow you to go forward with no interruptions.

Once you have your time frame for uninterrupted self hypnosis, sit on your floor cross legged. This will keep you relaxed but not allow for you to become too relaxed. In this state of self hypnosis you do not want to be going to sleep.

Now you will be breathing in and out and helping yourself reach a relaxed state. Once you are relaxed, you can begin to use your inner voice in your head to send your mind positive messages. Use positive words as the mind will wrap around the negative words and this will cause the self hypnosis to fail. Do not use the phrase, “I will not become stressed”, because your mind will wrap around the word stressed. Instead use a phrases such as, “I am relaxed”, “I am in control”, “I feel great today”, “Life is good and everything in it is good”. These positive words will become imprinted in your mind allowing for your subconscious mind maintain this outlook. By maintaining this outlook you will find that you are less stressed and that everyday challenges are getting easier to handle with minimal or no stress at all.

If you are having difficulty using your inner voice to place subliminal messages in your mind, then one thing that you can do is record your voice saying these positive messages. That way during a self hypnosis session all you have to do is work on getting into a relaxed state of mind and the tape recording will do the work placing the positive messages in your mind. A tape recorded message can also be used while you are sleeping to help your subconscious mind wrap itself around these positive outlooks.

Remember though that self hypnosis takes time and that the more you keep at it the better you will get. The better you become the easier it will become to self hypnotize yourself. Once you are able to fully self hypnotize yourself, you will begin to see that your stress levels are lowering and you are becoming stressed out less frequently.

Cornerstones of Self-Confidence

Self-confidence is something that all of us need if we have to do well in life. It gives us the courage to face the most difficult of situations, something which cannot be said of people who lack self-confidence. They often break down in front of challenges.

The question, however, is how do you achieve self-confidence? You can do so if you define your tasks, and priorities, correctly. You then need to ask yourself as to how you can accomplish these tasks. A good strategy is to break your goals into smaller tasks. This makes the main task seem less daunting. You then need to pat yourself every time you reach a milestone. This increases your self-confidence, and makes it easy for you to achieve your goals.

You also need to look at the image that you have of yourself. If you don’t have a good image of yourself, and are always running yourself down, then your chances of being successful are minimal. Your self image or what you believe about yourself can be hurt easily if you blame yourself for any setback in your life like a business failure, loss of a job or a divorce. So, avoid self-flagellation. It feeds on your negative thoughts, and can easily become a monster. You need to write off your failures, and plan for new challenges. This is a positive approach to adopt, and can shore up your shaky self-confidence.

Those who are close to you play an important role in shaping your self-confidence. If they happen to critical or negative, they will have a negative impact on your self-confidence. Your priority should be to distance yourself from such people, and find friends and supporters who are imbued with a positive outlook. Without your knowing, they will add to your self-confidence.

Another issue that matters is your reaction to the events in your life. You should consider yourself a unique person who has his own special place in the world. This will lead to a development of positive attitudes, beliefs and values, qualities that can give you the self-confidence to succeed against all odds. However, there is an inherent danger in such a world-view. You may become too over-confident, and stop listening to what the others say. Don’t allow this to happen. Listen to all criticism, filter out the points that can make you a better individual; junk the rest. This constant course correction will make you a better individual.

At the same time, you need to monitor your internal dialogue. You must talk yourself into believing that you can take up any reasonable assignment. This will drive away negative attitudes and beliefs, and add to your self-confidence..

In fact, the picture you have of yourself needs constant monitoring and care. You cannot afford to let it take care of itself. Your self-confidence, happiness and success depends on it. You need to guard against selling yourself short. Don’t underestimate yourself and prevent feelings of inferiority from creeping in. Aim high and feel that you are capable of achieving anything you choose. Write down how you would like to see yourself five or ten years from now.

Make a list of your strong points, the things you do well and the compliments you receive. Write down a few of the things about yourself, which you think need improvement. Think of yourself as a self-confident person and act as if you are very self-confident, even if you don’t feel that way. Try to keep negative attitudes and beliefs away from yourself and maintain a safe distance from negative and destructive people.

If you take responsibility for your life and practice these methods regularly, your self-confidence will rise. What’s more, it will remain high.
