Positions in Time Management

What are our positions in time management? Time management is the process of planning to reach a goal, and finding a solution that helps us to reach that goal. This article should be relatively short, since the words above should be more than obvious. YOU are the main position in time management. However, we must consider all positions in time management to construct a plan that works best for you. Every one of us has a deadline to meet a specific task (s). Your position then is to get those tasks finished, bring in you one-step closer to your goal. If you are wasting time sifting through papers, or daydreaming, you are wasting energy, money and time that could be spent in your time management plan to achieve your goal. After carefully study clutter, I estimated it takes around 10-15 minutes to clean up the desk, while it takes about 30 minutes to find papers that are important to achieving goals. Sloppiness is a sign of irresponsibility, and it only wastes time, promotes negative thinking, and costs money. If you work at a desk, and most of your tasks are handled on a computer, then it takes a few minutes to backup your data and store it in a safe place. It takes years to recover what you have not backed up. In addition, if you are labeling your files accurately it takes less time to find a file in demand, and takes longer to find the file that was incorrectly labeled.

Are you spending quality time with your family, or is your time idling? One hour of your time each day can save you money and time. If you are not spending quality time with your family, factor in the expense of divorce, heartaches, time, and other elements when those days comes and deduct the loss in your time management scheme. In some cases, you can calculate the expenses of court costs when your children decide dad or mom is not enough, and they need attention lacking so they get major attention after committing a crime. Let reality sink in when you are diverting a plan to manage your time, reaching your goal. There are many positions in managing time, but for the most part your effort is the position that requires consistency.

School is important and a vital requirement to managing time, since it is a resource to reaching goals. When you are at school your position in this time management scheme is to DO your homework on time and study accordingly. If you are daydreaming in class, remember it is a dream toward a past that was never achieved to reach the dream. If you are procrastinating, your position is lost. Procrastination is the process of intentionally and habitually putting off responsibilities, and when we put off responsibilities our position in achieving those goals is sitting in a seat in someone else’s pocket. In addition if you are not studying to meet grades that are required in achievement, then you are saying to yourself and everyone around you that, “My position in life is to do what I can, and ignore what I want to do.” The positions in planning to achieve a goal are requiring that you act out your plans putting strong emphasis on laboring to reach your goal. It requires the ability to manage your time while staying organized. If you are waiting for your goals to fall in your lap, remember your ship rolled in when you was out in the middle of the ocean. It takes work, effort, responsibility, motivation, and careful planning to save time and make money to reach a goal. If you do not have all these qualities then your position in life are to wait for someone else to reach your goal while you sit back wondering what happened. Your position if well thought out in your time management scheme can bring forth short-term rewards, such as motivation to achieve, great self-esteem, self-confidence, and so on. Holding your position in your time management scheme may even bring your goal closer than expected if you apply the actions that are needed in managing time.

Larry Ellison

Larry Ellison is currently the fifteenth richest billionaire in the world, with a net worth of $25 billion USD. He is the co-founder and CEO of Oracle Corporation, a computer software company which specializes in developing database management systems and other enterprise software products. If this sounds like a dry and boring way to make your fortune, that business is offset by the colorful and extravagant personality behind it.

Larry Ellison was born August 17, 1944, in Manhattan, New York, USA. As astounding as it is to consider for the world’s fifteenth-richest person, his mother was just nineteen years old and unwed, and to this day his father is not established. At the age of nine months, he was adopted by Lillian and Louis Ellison, who raised him in Chicago’s South Shore as their own. Larry Ellison did not even meet his real mother until the age of 48.

In what is now considered a famous quirk of his, he attended both the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the University of Chicago, without finishing either one and without attaining a degree. At the age of 20, in 1964, he was first exposed to computers and programming, and nothing else would ever again hold his fascination. Thus, he is what is considered an “autodidact” - someone who is self-taught. In the computer programmer culture, an autodidact is actually held in higher esteem than a college-trained professional, in contrast to other industries, since colleges have a hard time keeping up with the changes of the technology industry.

In the 1970’s, Larry Ellison found himself working as a programmer for Ampex, an American electronics company which makes audio and video equipment. During this time, Ampex received the contract to develop a computer database program for the United States Central Intelligence Agency, to be code-named ‘Oracle’, and Ellison got to work on that project. Ellison retained the rights to produce the database software commercially and drew from this and also inspiration from white papers published at the time by Edgar F. Codd. Ellison founded his own software development company, called Software Development Laboratories , in 1977, using only $2000 of his own money to do so.

Software Development Laboratories changed its name to Relational Software Inc., then again to Oracle, after their lead database product. Oracle software charted the course of computing history into the Information Age, first running on VAX machines, then Unix and PDPs, into mainframe servers and desktop microcomputers. Through the decades, Oracle software has been built into a trustworthy and respected brand name. The highly technical nature of developing database software prohibits start-up competitors, and the industry is pretty happy to let it be Oracle’s problem.

Yet another notable trait for a world-class billionaire, Larry Ellison is staunchly supportive of Free and Open Source Software. Oracle’s products have always run across all computer systems and platforms, in stark contrast to other companies in the software industry who choose to lock users into running Microsoft Windows. People who think that Bill Gates is the only billionaire with an operating system will be surprised to learn that Oracle has its own distribution of the Linux operating system. Called Oracle Enterprise Linux but known commonly as “Unbreakable Linux”, it is a security-hardened version of the increasingly-popular GNU/Linux operating system. Even more amazing, Oracle Corporation chooses to give Unbreakable Linux away for free, charging only for support contracts. This is in keeping with the GNU/Linux philosophy.

Finally, there may be people richer than Larry Ellison, but none can be said to enjoy it more. Ellison is active in sports such as yacht racing, he owns a line of exotic cars including the Acura NSX, a McLaren F1, and an Audi R8. He is also a licensed pilot, and owns and flies aircraft regularly. His home in Woodside, California is a $200 million estate that is modeled on feudal Japanese architecture. He has also rivaled the top fifteen world billionaires in charitable donations, and, unlike some other billionaire software moguls who made their fortunes through pillaging the technology community, his donations are never self-serving moves that will go right back into his pocket.

Larry Ellison is a living, breathing anomaly, with far more color to his character than can ever be expressed in this article. He has made his way exclusively on his own, with no help from anyone. He is one of the few world-class billionaires of whom it can be said that he has earned every penny of his fortune - perhaps many times over.

Treat Yourself to a Massage

There are few things in life that are almost guaranteed to relieve a person of stress immediately. If a list of such things were available, there would certainly be a spot reserved for one of the finer enjoyments of life: receiving a great massage. Stress and tension have a tendency to melt in the hands of a qualified masseur or masseuse.

Fortunately for you, there are many different types of massage available from which to choose. You can experiment with the types that catch your fancy and discover what works best for you when it comes to relieving stress. This article is a small outline of some of the available types of massage awaiting your indulgence.

Acupressure is a form of massage developed by the same Chinese folks who brought the world acupuncture. In fact, the theory behind acupressure is based on the theory behind acupuncture. But you need not believe in the theories of traditional Chinese medicine to enjoy a massage. Acupressure uses the fingers, palms, and elbows to apply pressure to parts of the body believed to have some connection to the ailment in question. The beauty of acupressure is that many of its techniques can be done solo.

Aryuvedic massage is a form of massage that stems from the Indian art of Aryuvedic medicine, a system of holistic treatment. The masseur or masseuse uses hot herbal oils believed to treat certain conditions of the body and mind.

Reflexology is a form of massage that focuses heavily on the feet. The belief is that certain parts of the foot correspond in some metaphysical way to certain parts of the body. Stimulation of parts of the foot is believed to result in stimulation of the corresponding parts of the body. If you have been walking non-stop all week and want to experience a style of massage that centers on your feet, reflexology may be the style for you.

Shiatsu is a form of massage from Japan, based on the same metaphysical beliefs as acupressure (what the Chinese call chi, what the Indians call prana, and what the Japanese call ki is the energy believed to flow through the body along uniform channels). It too uses the hands, particularly the thumbs, to apply pressure to various parts of the body.

Swedish massage is a very popular form of massage that uses light touches, kneading, rhythmic tapping, compression, and vibration to relieve the body of pain, stiffness, tension, and the results of stress. This form of massage is what people usually think of when conversations about massage arise.

Thai massage is a form of massage that combines stretches with applied pressure. Depending on the Thai masseur or masseuse, the emphasis may be on either the stretches or the applied pressure.

Often people find that giving a massage to someone else can be as relaxing as receiving a massage themselves. If you are one of these people and are having trouble finding subjects who wish to lie down on your makeshift massage table, consider signing up for a course in massage therapy at your local community college. Doing so will provide you with hands-on instruction for a number of massage techniques (and it does not get any more hands-on than massage!). Furthermore, you will have plenty of willing subjects available, and you may one day even be able to charge for your services. At the very least, your friends and family will no longer be avoiding your massage table as they do now, scared as they are of being the new power tools for your viselike hands.
